What is Reiki

Laying on of Hands

Reiki is the ancient art of “laying on of hands” in order to heal. It is the use of touch to convey warmth, serenity, love, caring and healing, through the channelling of energy to enhance a person's own life force.

When experiencing pain or hurt, people tend to put their hands on the injured part of the body as the first part of trying to subdue the pain, and heal it. Mothers tend to caress or want to kiss their children’s wounds or scrapes as part of the process of comforting and healing. The same with sick people, relatives tend to hold their hands or touch the sick person in order to convey and transmit a feeling of comfort and care. Animals perform this same process instinctively. They tend for example, to lick the area of pain, or wounds as form of comfort and healing. This “laying on hands” or touching to heal stems from the principle that every living being or creature has a life force. This life force radiates from all parts of a person, and it is the harnessing and channelling of this life force or energy to heal using certain Reiki techniques is what Reiki is all about.

Life Force or “Ki”

The word Reiki can be broken down into two parts: Rei, and Ki. Ki is the life force or energy and is the source of life itself or Prana. In Japan, life energy is termed Ki. Ki is similar to the Chinese Chi, and pervades the whole of the earth, planets, stars, and universe, and these life energies affect and connect with our own living body’s Ki.

Rei on the other hand refers to the universal transcendental spirit, essence or mysterious power that exists in the universe

The Difference between Reiki and Other Healing Techniques

Reiki is not a religion, but is a special set of techniques based on ancient Tibetan healing methodologies that allows one to tap into this infinite and limitless source of this life energy to heal. Most religions and healing techniques all believe in a type of life force. Where Reiki differs from other healing techniques is in the attunement process.

A person who has been through the process of Reiki attunements, and who has experienced the very ancient technology for fine-tuning the physical and etheric bodies to a higher vibratory level will be able to use and channel this energy at a higher vibration. The attunement process opens certain energy centres in the person body called chakras, enabling the Reiki practitioner to channel and vibrate higher amounts of life force energies or Ki into the body.  The Reiki attunement allows the receiver to be connected to Ki in a more limitless way.

Receiving an attunement does not give the receiver something new. It just reopens, aligns or tunes the receiver or practitioner to something that always has been part of you. It removes barriers to this channelling of Ki or energy, thus allowing it to flow easily and with great effect.

When you are connected to the universal life force or Ki through the Reiki attunement, not only do you enhance and boost your own life force, but you can use this connection to the benefit of others and hence assist in their healing process.

Attunements are given one on one and can only be passed on from Reiki Master/Teacher to the Student. From the first attunement onwards, the student just needs to place their hands upon themselves or others and Ki will flow.

Reiki Healing – A gift

Reiki is a gift that forever changes the beneficiary’s life in many positive ways.  Reiki students have reported that after their attunements, they are more psychic than before.
